Borrowers comfortable with debt
Posted in Debt News, on Thursday, April 20th, 2006A new survey says that three quarters of Britons in debt say they are comfortable with the amount they owe, and 85% don’t expect to have any problems keeping up repayments.
The survey by CreditExpert said that a third of borrowers expected their debt levels to fall over the next 6 months, compared to just 11% who could foresee borrowing more.
The latest Bank of England figures show that Britain as a whole has £1.2 trillion in personal debt, including both mortgage debt and unsecured debts such as credit cards and loans. This works out to an average debt of over £25,000 per adult, although recent entrants into the housing market will in general owe far more.
