Will Hutton writes on debt problems of ‘club 18-40′
Posted in Debt News, on Tuesday, April 4th, 2006Observer editor Will Hutton wrote a piece this week about the difficulties younger people have making ends meet, and the worrying levels of debt many are getting into.
He points out the divide that exists between people that took out a mortgage pre- and post-property boom, and how changing attitudes to credit have lead to a ‘live now, pay later’ culture.
Refreshingly, he doesn’t paint people with debt problems as irresponsible or feckless, but recognises that heavy indebtedness is almost a prerequisite of modern life, especially for those trying to get onto the property ladder.
