20% of adults owe £10k or more in unsecured debt
Posted in Debt News, on Monday, May 1st, 2006A recent study conducted by YouGov on behalf of debt consultancy firm Thomas Charles has estimated that nearly a fifth of the UK adult population have unsecured debts of £10k or more.
This amounts to around 8 million people with debt levels that could be described as serious, and of these a quarter also have secured debt such as a mortgage of £100k or more.
80% of those with high debts felt their lenders had been irresponsible in making such amounts of credit available so easily, and a third said that their debts had had an effect on their health or relationships, with 8% saying they had become clinically depressed as a result.
